From Radio Newcomer to Digital Storyteller

Wellington Ongori, known on-air as Esimba, is a proud pioneer member of Chuka University Radio’s inaugural Cohort 1 who has built a remarkable career as a digital content creator. As the Founder of Ongori Reports, a successful YouTube channel focused on documentary-style stories covering Kenyan stories and notable figures, Wellington has achieved the prestigious milestone of 100,000 subscribers. His journey from campus radio to digital media entrepreneurship demonstrates how foundational broadcasting skills can evolve into powerful independent storytelling platforms that resonate with national audiences.

Chuka University Radio Experience

Wellington’s professional journey began at Chuka University Radio, where he transformed from a complete amateur into a skilled broadcaster. Hosting African Mashup and Mzuqa Sato, he gained essential skills in radio broadcasting, radio production, and voiceover artistry. Beyond technical abilities, his time at CUR catalyzed significant personal growth—improving his social skills, boosting his confidence, and strengthening his public speaking ability. These competencies became the bedrock for Ongori Reports, his self-employed digital media venture. Over three years, he has built a YouTube channel that now commands over 100,000 subscribers through compelling documentary-style storytelling that captures Kenyan stories and notable figures, proving that the confidence and technical foundation gained at CUR can fuel entrepreneurial success in the digital age.
