By Johana Mwangi

Chuka University, through its Human Resource Department, held a mentorship program for interns and newly placed interns from the Public Service Commission (PSC) aimed at enhancing workplace readiness and professional development.
The mentorship session brought together interns drawn from various departments and was facilitated by the Human Resource Manager, Dr. Henry Nyamu, and the Director of Performance and Contracting, Ms. Florence Muthua. The program focused on equipping the interns with essential knowledge and skills to help them integrate smoothly into the university and public service work environment.
During the session, participants were taken through the university’s internship framework, including the citizens’ service delivery charter, organizational structure, work ethics, performance expectations, and the importance of aligning individual performance with institutional goals. Emphasis was also placed on adherence to the code of conduct and professionalism in service delivery.
Interns further engaged in interactive discussions on workplace expectations, effective communication, teamwork, and time management, identified as key pillars for personal growth and effective service delivery.
The mentors also provided practical guidance on career development and skills enhancement to improve employability and prepare the interns for future career progression. The mentorship program underscored Chuka University’s commitment to nurturing competent, ethical, and career-ready professionals within the public service.
